Slingo Daily Challenge: P-p-p-p-power!

Slingo Daily Challenge is a new game at Slingo. It’s a really neat expansion on the classic Slingo game! (Read the guide on Slingo Classic to learn about the coins, Jokers, Cherub, and Devil.)

This is a solo game so you’re not trying to beat anyone else. You have 5 minutes to take your spins and match the numbers! I really love that I don’t have to wait for everyone else to finish each turn. *^_^*

And if you couldn’t guess by the name, each day you’ll get a new challenge score to beat. (Thus the “Daily Challenge” part.) Beat it and you’ll earn 150,000 Slingo coins! If you can’t beat it you’ll get 10,000 coins and a chance to try again.

But what really makes this a fabulous game is the addition of powerups!

slingoboard
Oooooh! Fun!!

Powerups are a common feature in their downloadable games, but this is the first time they’ve been included on a browser-played Slingo game. I like it. ^_^

Each day you get between one and nine powerups. (So far I’ve only seen between 2-6, but I don’t play every single day.) Currently there are ten different powerups and an 11th will be released later this month.

So right now there are a total of 3,628,800 powerup combinations. It would take you 103,680 years to play a different one each day!

In other words, you’re not likely to get bored with this one. ^_^

I have no idea how many total powerups they plan on releasing, but here’s what’s out so far. (The Instant Slingos powerup is new TODAY!)

freespins
bounceslingos
devilprotection
extrajokers
extrasuperjokers
instantslingos
multipliers
platcoin
powershot
nudge
slingovision

Most of these are pretty self explanatory, but here’s more info on a few of the trickier ones.

Bounce Slingos

As you know, normally Slingos can only be made when you cover five in a row, column, or diagonal. Getting the Bounce Slingos powerup adds two new patterns to the board!

The first one is very simple.

singlebounceslingop1 It’s smiling at me!

That’s a Slingo! That shape activates four new Slingos on the board. You can also look at it this way, if it helps.

bouncepattern1 Um.. Thanks?

For some reason I have a harder time remembering the second pattern, but it works like this:

sinblebounceslingo Check!

It may look simple, but this this pattern adds sixteen Slingos to the board! If you drew them all out it’d look something like this.

bouncepattern2b o_O Well, that’s… colorful.

If you’re not into planning your Slingos out, just place your Jokers wherever you want and don’t worry about it. ^_^

Devil Protection

This is one of my favorite powerups, mainly because I HATE that darn Devil. >_< But there’s another great reason to have the Cherub save your behind. Sometimes zie’ll double your score!

doubledscoreWoohooo!!

Whenever you look at the daily scores and wonder how in the heck people got that high, this is the answer. The Cherub saved their behind multiple times, and generously doubled their score in the process!

Keep in mind that Devil Protection doesn’t mean that you’ll get your score doubled every time a Cherub saves you. But it does mean that you won’t lose any points at all to that darn Devil!

Power Shot

This one is awesome. ^_^ When the icon pops up, you can match any number in the column above it. But when you click the number you’re really getting five spots at once! It looks like this:

powershotpattern Nice!

Very handy!

Slingo Vision

This is another of my faves too. (Is there a powerup I dislike? Probably not.)

Slingo Vision automatically highlights available moves, which makes the games SUPER fast. ^_^ I love it.

sligovisionactivated Slingo Vision, activate!

Tips & Tricks

The value of Slingos increases when you have them in succession.

  • 1st Slingo = 1000 points
  • 2nd Slingo = 1500 points
  • 3rd Slingo = 2000 points
  • 4th Slingo = 2500 points
  • 5th Slingo = 3000 points
  • 6th Slingo = I hope you get the idea by now.

When you click SPIN it starts over, so try to plan your Slingos out and get as many as you can in one turn!

Since the game changes every day, that’s really the only tip I’ve figured out so far! *^_^*

Final Rating

I really enjoy the variety in the Slingo Daily Challenge, and I look forward to seeing future powerups! The challenge score is also pretty neat, but it’s frustrating when the only way you can get it is to have the Cherub save your behind AND double your score. I’m not usually that lucky. :(

Other than that little bit, it’s a fantastic game! ^_^ I rate it 4.5 stars out of 5. What would you rate it? Do you have a favorite powerup? Least favorite?

Mystical Wizard – Baby, let’s make some magic together. *Wink*

Mystical Wizard is a slots game available at FreeSlots. It isn’t nearly as complicated as Olympics, which is a HUGE relief for me. ^_^

If you couldn’t guess by the name, Mystical Wizard is a fantasy-themed game. Some of the pictures look like they’re straight from a book of fairytales.

You can play up to 9 lines, which you should absolutely do. (Remember, at FreeSlots you can never run out of tokens!)

9linesRainbow!!

Wilds

This game is a little unusual when it comes to wilds. Why? Because there are two completely different types of wilds!

wilds Woohoo!

First, we have a goose that lays golden eggs.

gooseDuck. Duck. Duck. Duck. Duck. Duck. GOOSE!!! *Runs*

The goose “sticks” to the board for two spins, and on the 3rd spin it turns into a golden egg! The egg/wild sticks to the board for three more spins, and then it goes away.

If geese are too tame for you, then wait for the dragons! When a dragon appears it will blow fire into the next wheel, turning icons into wilds!

dragonfire FIRE!!!

The dragon can only set fire to what’s directly next to it, and sometimes (like in the above picture) it can set fire to the entire wheel. This means that a dragon on the bottom of the wheel can only set fire to one item. A dragon at the top of the wheel might set fire to 1, 2, or 3 items. It’s pretty random. ^_^

The dragonfire wilds apply as soon as they catch fire, and then they’ll stick in place for the next five spins.

Wizards

The wizards have two different roles. If you get a wizard on the middle row, in any one of the middle reels, the wizard will shuffle the icons that surround him.

In the pic below, the wizard is in the red box and the icons in the neon-green boxes are what he shuffles.

spinaroundwizard Um… yeah…

The shuffle rarely impacts the board in a significant way. I’ve never had it change a non-winning spin into a MEGA-winning spin. So don’t sweat it too much.

Now if the wizard gets two other wizard friends on the board, then it’s time for magic!

3wizards Ooh! Make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!

The three wizards trigger a mini-game, and the entire board vanishes only to be replaced by a field of crystal balls. Click on a crystal ball to find out what’s underneath!

crystalballs What does my future hold?

If you’re lucky you’ll find a gem, which means you can click on another crystal ball! But if you find a dragon, it’s game over. :( All of the remaining crystal balls will vanish, so you can see what you missed. (And see where the other dragons were hiding.)

gemsanddragons Whoa.. Pretty good!

The numbers beside each gem are token values. In the picture above I just earned 90 tokens!

Sometimes when you hit a dragon, a wizard will appear and save your butt. It *usually* happens if you find a dragon within your first few clicks, but I’ve had the wizard save me after I’d cleared half of the board too. o_O He’s a little bit random.

But the fun doesn’t end there. ^_^ When you switch back to the regular board you’ll see a list of gems on the side, and as you spin you’ll see gems ALL over the board!

gems Shiny things!!

Once again, the number beside each gem tells you how many tokens it’s worth. There’s one thing that puzzles me though. Spin after spin, you’ll get oodles of gems until they run out. But how can you tell how many gems you’ll get? Is it random? (It seems to be.)

I hate not knowing. >_<

Anywho, that’s the end of the guide to Mystical Wizard!

Final Rating

At first I didn’t enjoy Mystical Wizard because I kept losing. Frankly, I would have given up if I was playing for myself. *^_^*

Then I got three wizards, and suddenly I was sitting on hundreds of tokens. Woohoo!!

And that’s really the only way to get lots of tokens here. The winnings from the regular paytable are pitiful, even with the wilds helping out. But once you reach the minigame you can easily get 300-500 tokens in a short amount of time.

Winning big is exciting, but I prefer my slot games to be a little more balanced. Long, uninterrupted losing streaks are hardly my idea of fun.

I rate Mystical Wizard 3.5 stars out of 5. It’s moderately enjoyable, but not something I’ll stick with. What would you rate it?

And while we’re chatty, what’s your ideal slot game like? I wanna know! ^_^

Olympics – The most complicated slot game of all time. (Part 2)

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this! Life got a little busy. *^_^*

Anywho! Today we’re going to finish up the guide for Olympics, which includes looking at the numerous minigames and other features.

If you missed part 1, please read it before you jump in! (Read Olympics part 1.)

3 Line Game

Technically the 3 Line Game is more of a bonus instead of a minigame, but man…. it’s AWESOME!

If you’re lucky enough to win it, you’ll be playing three lines at once!

3lines Ooooh!

I know the red lines are tiny, but that’s what it looks like to play three lines. ^_^ Alas, the three lines don’t last forever. You can win either 20 or 50 spins worth, plus whatever lines you have saved up in the Line Collector.

The 3 Line bonus is fabulous for most of the minigames!

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Arrow Game

You start out with a target in the middle of the bottom row.

Arrow Game Have I ever mentioned that I love Wii Archery?

Then you start spinning the slot wheels! If you recall, the first slot wheel often has a green directional arrow along with the image. These arrows move your target!

target moves to the right It’s just a step to the right!

As soon as you touch a prize (20, 40, 100, etc) then the game is over and that’s what you win. It’s VERY hard to reach the good prizes! Thankfully there isn’t a downward arrow, so you can only move upward!

Well, or just back and forth between left and right. That’s not quite as fun. :(

There isn’t any strategy for this one, and “holding” the 1st wheel won’t repeat whatever arrow is on it. Just spin and hope for the best!

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Direct Nudge Game

This is an interesting one. ^_^ You’ll get between 10-15 spins to use 9-14 nudges.

What’s a nudge? A nudge lets you adjust one wheel up or down.

directnudgespin Lovely red boxes!

Here you can see how many spins are left (15) and the nudge buttons below the wheels. But how do you know what to move? Well, the items on the slot wheels aren’t random! They have a set order that’s pictured in teeny-tiny images beside each wheel. If you don’t feel like pulling out a magnifying glass, you can always visit the official Olympics help page to see a full-size version of the list. Once you’re at the page look for this:

find slot wheels Helpful red box is helpful.

And there you have it!

This list is useful so you can figure out what’s the best way to move your slot wheels. But personally, I always pick “Auto” to figure it out for me. *^_^* Auto always goes for the best combination possible, but sometimes that might be 3 lemons.

If you have nudges and spins left, hit “Spin” again and try to nudge your way to another good combination. Nothing there? Then keep spinning until you find something that will work. But if you run out of spins, you’ll lose any remaining nudges.

IMPORTANT: Nudges can be stacked, so you could move one wheel 10 times if you wanted.

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Hurdle Race Game

I think this one is probably my favorite minigame. ^_^ You have a track, and three runners to get to the finish line. You only have 10 spins, so you really have to think with this one!

hurdle race mid-play Run, little men! Run!

In the second slot wheel there’s a die next to each item. Whatever you “roll” determines how many spaces you can move. Now the tricky part is that you can only move one of your runners on each spin! There’s a color-coordinated button below each slot wheel, and that’s how you pick which runner is going to move.

When one runner crosses the finish line you’ll pick up 3 more spins. If a 2nd runner crosses the finish line, you get 3 more spins again. If the third runner crosses the finish line you’ll get a Jackpot Game and an Olympics game! (The Olympics Game is described later. (Yes, I know it’s confusing to have a minigame called “Olympics Game” when the game itself is called Olympics.))

There are a few tricks along this board. Whenever you roll a six you automatically get one more spin. AND, if you land on any star on the board, you’ll jump ahead to the next star. The stars are placed six spaces apart, so if you’re lucky you can tear through the game without a problem. But you probably won’t be lucky, so pay attention to these tips. ^_^

Tip 1: Use no more than two runners at a time. One runner will get all of the 6’s, and the other runner will get all of the other numbers. As soon as one crosses the finish line, pull out the third runner to take its place.

Tip 2: If the game is going poorly and you’re running out of spins, try to land a runner on a +2 spot. This will add two more spins to your game! The runner has to land exactly on the spot for it to count.

You can also win minigames by collecting the items on the board. The hard part is that you have to collect the entire set in order to get the minigame! So far I haven’t been able to do it. :(

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Nudge Game

As I mentioned in the Direct Nudge section, a nudge simply lets you move one wheel either up or down. The regular Nudge Game isn’t quite as generous as the Direct Nudge, and you only get one spin to play with!

nudge game buttons Better make it count!

You get either 4, 6, or 8 nudges each game. I strongly recommend hitting Auto for this one! It will get you the best combination and if there isn’t a match available, it will say “No match available” in the stats bar. If there are any nudges left over at all, they will be saved for the next time you get a Nudge Game!

Saved nudges do not apply to the Direct Nudge Game. I have no idea why, but they don’t!

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Olympics Game

This is the Olympics minigame in Olympics. Try not to think about it too much.

olympics inside olympics

It’s like staring at eternity!

Honestly, this is one of the more boring minigames in here, which is a shame. You spin until you get a star on the middle line in the 3rd slot wheel. This lights up the bottom rung, which is 100 credits.

For the next five spins, whenever you get a star in the middle line, the next rung will light up.  If you get up to the top tier you’ll want a BAR instead of a star. But since you only have a 1 in 34 chance of landing on BAR, don’t hold your breath!

You probably won’t get very high in this ladder unless you’re either VERY lucky or have the 3 Line bonus. If you have 3 lines going then you’re guaranteed to do quite well. ^_^ Why? Well if you look at the wheel list, you’ll see that every 3rd item on the 3rd wheel is a star. So when you’re playing 3 lines, you’ll get a star every spin. Nice!

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Random Game

Alas, I don’t have a picture for this one. (And believe me, I tried!) When you get this one a screen will pop up with four options: Hurdle Race Game, Swim Game, Sailboat Game, and Sprint Game. Olympics will “flash” through the four items and whichever one it stops on is what you get to play!

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Sailboat Game

Trim the sail! Batten the hatches! Do sailing-type things!

Or spin/roll dice to move your ship around the board. That works too. ^_^

sailboatgame Yarr!!

“Steps” are how many moves you have left. So if you roll a 6, it will say “06” and count down for each space as you cross it. Like all of the other dice games, you can’t split a move!

“Game” means how many spins you have left. You start with only 10 spins! If you’re running low, try to land on a +2 to pick up two more spins!

You’ve probably noticed the items on the board. ^_^ There are life savers, anchors, and waves. Your goal is to collect these pieces, which you can only do if you land directly on the piece. Just passing over the piece won’t work. Gather an entire set to win a minigame! Weee!!

It’s fairly impossible to get an entire set the first time you set sail. Thankfully the pieces are saved between sailboat games! However, if you close Olympics at all, the pieces will reset on the board and you’ll have to start over. :(

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Select a Game

I’d say this one is pretty straight forward. ^_^

select a minigame You mean… I get to pick?

Yup! Pick whether you want to sprint, sail, jump hurdles, or swim! If you get this one, take a quick peek at the Magenta Shopping List to see if you need one of those games. Otherwise, pick what you want!

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Sprint Game

I tend to have terrible luck with this one, so it’s not exactly one of my faves.

sprintgame Oh dear.

You have 10 spins to move up the “stairs” and get to the “track.” Each time you get a star on the middle line you’ll go up one “step.”

Whenever you spin/roll a 6 you’ll get an extra spin, which is nice! But once you’re on the track the bonus is squiggled out. You’ll have to land on +3 to get more spins!

But that’s the end. At the very beginning it will “flash” between the two 20’s at the bottom. This determines your starting point. Here’s how the steps go:

  • Step 1 = 20 credits
  • Step 2 = 20 credits
  • Step 3 = 40 credits
  • Step 4 = 40 credits
  • Step 5 = 40 credits
  • Step 6 = 40 credits + 10 more spins

And then you’re on the track! Now, whenever you spin a star, the game will “flash” around the track at the top. Whatever you land on is your prize, and is grayed out so you can’t land on it again.

This game is awesome if you have the 3 line bonus going on. But if you don’t have it, you probably won’t get very far.

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Super Flash

The Super Flash is kinda fun. ^_^ The entire board lights up and the main screen is replaced with oodles of bonuses and minigames!

board lit for with Super FlashPretty colors!

The slot wheels will start spinning, and as they spin, the lights start winking out on the prizes. By the time the final wheel stops, there’s only one item lit up! That item is your prize. ^_^

highlighted prize 60 Jackpot Games?! WOOHOOO!!!

I haven’t figured out if there’s a connection between the slots and your prize, but even if there is, there’s nothing you can do to influence it. Just sit back and watch the colors!

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Super Game

This one lives up to it’s name! Or maybe I’m just really lucky with it. ^_^

Super Game It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No it’s… SUPER GAME!!!

You have a total of 10 spins, but they only kick in after you land on a star for the first time. When you get a star the game “flashes” through the items on the bottom row and the triangular Jackpot Flash! to the right. Whatever it stops on is your prize!

If it lands on an item at the bottom, that prize will “fall out” and the prizes above it will fall one spot down. If the flash lands on Jackpot Flash, a second flash will start. This time it will run through the Jackpot Games tower on the right. You can end up in the Jackpot Games section several times, but you can never win more than 60 Jackpot games.

After the 10 spins, Super Game will go through whatever prizes you’ve won.

  • BAR Games – If you land on BAR you’ll earn 1200 credits.
  • Star Games – If you land on a star you’ll earn 1200 credits.
  • JP Games – That was covered in the first Olympics post. ^_^

The prize games are played one at a time, starting with BAR and working to the right. If you didn’t win any BAR, star, or JP games then Super Game ends and you’ll get back to the main game!

Back to the table o’ minigames.

Swim Game

Adjust your floaties and get ready to swim some laps!

swimgame I’ve got my goggles on!

In Swim Game you start with 10 spins, and whenever you get a star on the middle line the game will “flash” through the bottom tier of prizes. If it stops on the +5 or +10 you’ll move up to the middle row, and will have that many spins for the middle! Land on +5 or +10 again and you’ll move to the top row!

The rows are played one at a time, starting with the highest row that you’ve reached.

swim game in progress Umm…. What??

It sounds really confusing, I know. It’s one of those things that will make more sense once you see it in action. ^_^

This is another game where it’s REALLY nice to have the 3 line bonus.

Back to the table o’ minigames.

That concludes the minigames! WOOHOO!!

Other Features

Olympics has an Auto-spin button, which is quite nice in theory. However, you can’t just turn it on and let the game go. With all of the minigames and bonuses, you’ll have to hit “Spin” to get it going every minute or so.

Despite this, Auto-spin is still pretty useful. You can turn it on while you’re surfing the web or playing other games! Just don’t forget to check back. ^_^

As with all Playtopia games, Olympics has a few trophies that you can get. They’re a teeny bit intimidating.

trophies They don’t look scary to me!

Yes, they’re lovely trophies. Now here’s what you have to do to get them! (The reward for getting the trophy is listed next to the name.)

Basic Olympics – 10,000 tokens

  • 2 Jackpot Games
  • 4 Super Games (in one game)
  • 5 Sprint Games (in one game)
  • 5 Sailboat Games (in one game)
  • 5 Hurdle Race Games (in one game)
  • 5 Swim Games (in one game)
  • 100,000 tokens won (in one game)

Expert Olympics – 25,000 tokens

  • 1 Extra Spin
  • 4 Jackpot Games (in one game)
  • 8 Super Games (in one game)
  • 10 Sprint Games (in one game)
  • 10 Sailboat Games (in one game)
  • 10 Hurdle Race Games (in one game)
  • 10 Swim Games (in one game)
  • 300,000 tokens won (in one game. I kid you not!)

Olympic Fighter – 100,000 tokens

  • 50 Extra Spins (total)
  • 500 Super Games (total)
  • 1,000 Sprint Games (total)
  • 1,000 Sailboat Games (total)
  • 1,000 Swim Games (total)
  • 1,000 Super Flash Games (total)
  • 2,000,000 tokens won (total)

Olympic Champion – 250,000 tokens

  • Must have Olympic Fighter trophy
  • 100 Extra Spins (total)
  • 500 Jackpot Spins (total)
  • 1,000 Super Games (total)
  • 1,500 Olympics Games (total (This is the Olympics minigame))
  • 2,000 Hurdle Race Games (total)
  • 2,000 Weightlift Games (total)
  • 4,000,000 tokens won (total)

I told you these were some intimidating trophies! o_O And in case you were wondering, “games” means each time you play. Not each spin in that minigame.

Achieving 100,000 and 300,000 tokens in one game may take a few days. So if you have a lousy connection or have to use a public computer, you can count the Basic and Expert trophies out. But you still have a chance for the Fighter and Champion trophies! ^_^

I know I always say that I like a challenge, but this one is a bit much for me!

Final Rating

Initially I found the chaos of Olympics to be overwhelming. There were just so many things going on at once, and I didn’t know what any of them meant! I turned to the Playtopia manual for Olympics, and that made my head hurt even more. *^_^* It reads like it was translated from another language, but it isn’t a very good translation.

Here’s the help section for the Weightlift minigame:

You get this game after hitting 3 x Melon, Lemon or Cherry (green winning board) when all light squares are on at the same time. The game gives you a flash, and is then active in 5 games. Weight pole gives winnings, and lights a weight pole square. When all 4 squares are lighted a flash is given between 200, Bonus, Extra, Flash Game and Super Game. Weightlift Game is not saved, but executed when it is won, except from when Direct Nudge Game is playing.

Does anyone understand that? Now that I know how it’s played I can kinda-sorta get what they’re saying, but as a new player I was completely baffled.

Once I figured everything out, the game lost its anxiety-inducing chaos. ^_^ I always feel MUCH better once I know how a game works! (Although writing it all out has been a total pain in the ass. >_<)

I respect how challenging this game must have been for the programmers, but Olympics is just too busy for me. 4 stars out of 5.

Of course, that’s just my take on it! I know at least one person who loves Olympics and I’m guessing she’d rate this one a 5. ^_^ What would you rate it? Are there any parts that are still confusing?
