I'm guessing they do it because they think they might get away with it. And I'm sure that some probably *do* get away with it. :( But other people flat out don't realize that they're cheating. One woman proudly told me that she was playing 7 Winster accounts "for her family." At the time I didn't realize that Winster is a 1 account per person site, or I would have reported her. Blast. :(

This is an incredibly informational post, Mira! I'm glad that you broke it down into, basically, idiot-terms. Or idiot-proof terms.

Frankly, I don't understand the thinking process behind cheating and multiple-account making. If each member of the sites that do this knew that getting caught with multiple accounts means paying back, possibly, what you won, know one would cheat.

Or, at least, it would cut down on the cheating.

John, I'm glad that you dropped by too. ^_^ And I wish I could say that I've always played by the rules. But when I was in high school and college, I viewed games as something purely for my enjoyment. I didn't think about the people behind them. To keep from kicking myself with guilt forever, I think of this:

We all do stupid stuff. But once we know better, there's no more excuse. I hope this series spurs people to think about their actions a little more.

As for the terms of service.. >_< Sometimes it seems like they're written to be impossible for the average person to understand. The consumer gets frustrated and doesn't read it, which doesn't help the company in the long run either. And several sites with the "one account per person" rule leave it buried in the ToS!

I like reading, but when I'm faced with a wall of text my eyes gloss over and I can't focus on it. For most of my digging I used ctrl-F to look for specific words. *^_^*

The point of this mild rambling is that it's beneficial to all parties to make the ToS clear and understandable. I wish more companies would consider that.

I'm actually glad I dropped by to your site, being able to read this particular post made me think back of some of the things I used to do back when I was a teenager, when I just created multiple accounts to earn some freebies newbies get from playing for the first time. I did like that game, I liked it so much I played it for like 4 years, lol. Anyway, I'd like to keep tabs of this post so i'm gonna go ahead and subscribe to its RSS feed. Thanks for this post , it would surely remind everyone to read those TOA's next time they register an account ,for just about anything (I know I would).

I'm so thrilled that you went into WHY game sites limit the number of accounts each person can play with. The site I work for has the same rule, and people still try to break it regularly because they don't really get it. An excellent post by you, as always!
